We are now hiring staffers for the summer of 2013.

The Need: Every year Camp Copass hires high school graduates and college students to be part of the staff and help out during the summer months. Thousands of children and youth visit the camp during this time and our goal is to create an environment conducive to the Holy Spirit working in their lives. Our staffers are not counselors that work directly with the campers; rather our ministry is to serve and take care of the needs of others.

The Job: It takes a lot to feed 500-700 campers 3 meals a day, 5 days a week so the majority of the time spent is in the dining hall. Other staff jobs include the concession stand, supplying toilet paper, picking up trash, cleaning cabins, and restocking soft drink machines. On Monday nights some camps have a carnival which the staff help with; face painting, snow cones, cotton candy, and crazy hairstyles are a few of the activities we provide. We are also looking for lifeguards and ropes course facilitators. The camp will pay the cost of certification classes for these employees.

The Dates: Summer starts in the beginning of June and runs through mid August. Each staffer may have one week of vacation except in July while Trek Weeks and Youth Camp are here. Also we are no longer letting staffers be part-time therefore they will need to make a commitment to at least nine full weeks of the ten available. This summer we are hosting camps and weekend retreats continuously so our staff will be on a rotating schedule (Monday - Friday / Thursday - Monday). The point is that flexibility with days is a must.

The Pay: This is a paying job. Everyone is also provided with free meals, a different t-shirt for each day, plus other accessories. All the staff are allowed to live on camp in rooms which can be subject to change at times. The table below shows the pay scale where the weekly rates are based on number of years at the camp. There is also an optional savings program; staffers would get $25.00 - $50.00 in spending money for the weekend while the rest of their earnings would be held until the end of the summer and given in a single check plus a bonus.

high school student first year staffer $190.00
college student first year staffer $200.00
college student second year staffer $210.00
college student third year staffer $220.00
college student fourth year staffer $230.00
full time lifeguard $250.00
part time lifeguard hourly pay

The Ministry: Being a summer staffer certainly takes a lot of effort but it is an important part of the ministry. Without us the campers would not have a clean place to sleep nor food to eat and the worship leaders would not have a receptive audience to tell them about the love of Jesus. A good attitude and work ethic is a must because the days and weeks are long especially with the Texas heat. The job is rewarding; many people make lifelong friends and some have even met their future husband or wife. There are also opportunities for spiritual growth; every morning a different staffer leads in a short devotion and once a week there is a Bible study. At times the staff enjoys a night when the camp takes everyone out to eat.

Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 and have completed their senior year in high school.

Hiring: Prospective (and returning) employees need to do the following:
1. Read the staff rules.
2. Fill out and submit an application.
3. Obtain a recommendation letter from your church pastor or youth minister.
